New Years Resolution Contest - 2008

And the winner is...Baldwin!

Baldwin rated himself 91% on achieving his resolutions for 2008.  I was tempted to deduct some points for not washing his CFA collectors shirt all year, but his lead was impressive and he truly deserved his win.

Baldwin received a pair of running shoes from Club Business member, Kintec Footlabs.

You can see Baldwin's winning resolutions, and all of the other ones for 2008 below.

Baldy's 2008 resolutions

PB a 100 miler- Stormy 100 miler August 8-9, 2008. 29:30ish. About 4.5 hour PR! Good enough!

log over 1000 miles in training and races (I have a GPS for this)

and most importantly make my no stink, long sleeve Chitosante tech shirt to be classified as a biological hazard.

Ean Jackson's 2008 Fitness Resolutions

One of my BHAGs (Big, Hairy, Audacious Goals) is to run my 100th ultramarathon during my first year in the 50+ age group. That would be 2008. Given that I'm now on track with 94 ultras under my belt, I'm soon going to have to pick the run I celebrate as my 100th.

For nobody other than myself, here are my draft 2008 fitness resolutions:

Running events:

  • Vancouver New Years Day Fat Ass 50K
  • Squamish Scrambler Snowshoe Run
  • Capilano Canyon MardiGras Night Run
  • one of Dirty Duo 50K,Diez Vista 50K or Chuckanut 50K
  • Mountain Highway Madness (3 laps, so I can count it as an ultra)
  • North Shore Enduro (at least 50K)
  • Squamish Brick
  • XTC 50K
  • Knee Knacker (assuming I get in)
  • Bill's Great Peak Ascent
  • STORMY
  • Capilano Canyon Midsummer Night Run
  • Forbidden Forest Run
  • Stein Valley (the whole meal deal)
  • Walk in the Park 54K (my 5th year, so they give me my own race number!)
  • Mountain Highway Madness (let's just see after WITP)
  • Go Deep or Go Home
  • 2 hash house harriers runs (dates TBD)

It's a nutty idea, but it would also be cool to run my 100th ultra as a 100-miler or at least be able to say that in 2008, I ran my 100th ultra and completed a 100-miler.

Apart from the running events, I aim to:

  • get my knackered knees back into shape so I run without pain
  • go to at least 50% of the Capilano Eagles Tuesday workouts (yes, rain or shine, so that makes 21+ times)
  • stretch more... to the point where I come at least close to touching my toes
  • get in the pool once every other week (21+ times) and win the Duel at the Pool 5K
  • get on the bike once every other week (21+ times)
  • get into the gym twice a week (100+ times)
  • get on the snowshoes once a week (while there is snow - 20+ times)
  • get in at least 15 days of downhill skiing (including several at Whistler)
  • share some of my experience with a few up-and-coming runners and race directors
  • volunteer (help with Club Fat Ass and the Capilano Eagles as a board member)
  • drink more water

By the way, if you get ambitious, you can also post your New Years resolutions on this site.

Ryan's 2008 Fitness Resolution List

In this upcoming year, 2008, I want to focus on overcoming the injuries I have suffered through over the last couple of years.

To accomplish this my goal is daily practise of pelvic aligment, core stabilisation and stretching, especially of chronically tight hamstrings and hips. Also use of the Indo Board and balance drills to improve alignment and balance.

In addition one of my main goals is to fully incorporate cross training into my weekly workout schedule. The main activities being

  • swimming twice per week (once 1500m, once 2 X 1500m),
  • cycling one long bike ride (3 hours plus)
  • in addition to doing my commuting on my bike whenever possible,
  • barefoot running,
  • snowshoe running at least once per week through the winter, and
  • strength training four times per week (twice upper body, twice lower body).

I am going to start the year off on a four month marathon training plan, building from 60 to 100 km per week. My main goals are to complete all 5 runs every week, and to increase my tempo run pace from 4:25/km to 4:10/km by April. After that I will move to a modified 6 day per week plan to get ready for the Knee Knacker, assuming I get in.

I plan to attend all of the Knee Knacker Sunday training runs, and assuming I can get a shift that finishes early enough on Wednesday all of those as well. The races I have planned for the year so far are:

  • New Years Day Fat Ass 50km,
  • Squamish Scrambler Snow Shoe Run,
  • Capilano Canyon Night Run,
  • Spring Mountain Highway Madness,
  • Vancouver Sun Run,
  • Big Sur International Marathon,
  • Vancouver 100,
  • Knee Knacker (subject to lottery),
  • Montreal Marathon,

In addition I will complete as many as possible of the Timex Series, 5 Peaks Series, Gutbuster Series and as many Club Fat Ass events as I can make it to.

Sibylle's 2008 Fitness Goals

I know, I know...it's a bit early to post New Year's Resolutions... but with the rain a nd fog we've had lately it almost feels like it is November and time to get ready ;-)

I foolishly posted my musings about 2008 a while ago including some lofty goals.  Since we actually have a contest going for New Year's Resolutions Ean has bugged me ever since to post my goals in the contest...So here I go:

Goal #1: Vancouver New Years Day Fat Ass 50km, ideally beating my time from 2006.

Goal #2: Marathon under 4h.  I would like to find a spring marathon somewhere less than 1h drive from Vancouver.  Failing that, I'll try Vancouver and have fall marathon (Kelowna) as back-up.

Goal # 3: Assuming I get in, participating and finishing at the 20th Kneeknacker North Shore Trail Run 50km.

Goal # 4: Participating in following other events/races:

  • Squamish Scrambler Snowshoe Run
  • Capilano Canyon MardiGras Night Run
  • Dirty Duo 25K
  • Mountain Highway Madness (2 laps)
  • Run To the Clouds
  • Squamish Brick ?
  • XTC 50K
  • Bill's Great Peak Ascent
  • Capilano Canyon Midsummer Nite Night Run
  • Go Deep or Go Home
  • Go Home
  • Pure Satisfaction

Since it is so early in the year I reserve the right to "fiddle" with these goals depending on  my training, health status and injuries...
