Flash - Burnaby Mountain Down Up Run (BMDUR 1105)

4 Apr 2011 18:30
Location:
Burnaby Mountain

A week-day evening trail/road run, in a group. Expect ELEVATION CHANGE, partial darkness, and of course rain.

Why:
Getting your post-work day, winter-time ELEVATION CHANGE trail run is less miserable with company. + it is a lot more fun to go uphill when you can't see how far the uphill stretches!

When:
Monday, April 4th, at 6:30 pm.

Where:
The coffee tables at the deli at Nesters' in the Cornerstone Building at the East edge of SFU near the NEW Bus Exchange at the top of Burnaby Mountain at the corner of Tower Road and University High Street

Route:
It will consist of a minimum 60 minute run with approximately 300m+. Do not be surprised if we drop down via the TransCanada (E) to Barnet Highway via Cardiac Hill; or down to Gaglardi via PowerLine; or down to E. Hastings via the TransCanada trail (W).

Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area trail map is available here.

The Plan:
Meet at Nesters's, short briefing, start running in a group led by me at a comfortable pace for me -- and therefore probably extremely slow for anyone running with me. Finish at Nester's, have some coffee/treats/soup at Nester's or one of the other coffee shops in the area; possibly dinner at one of the many other restaurants in the Cornerstone complex.

Is This Run For Me?
You should be comfortable with trail running, and with running in the dark.
These are not very technical trails; however it will be dark, cold, wet, muddy, and slippery if it snows. You may also have a lot of fun. You will also get some good elevation change! Because of the extreme elevation change in some sections, particularly if we use Cardiac Hill, or go down to Barnet via from the end of Powerline via TransCanada (E) be prepared to 'walk' uphill to get back to the 'starting' point and 'finishing' point!

Don’t forget:
A good strong headlamp and a cell phone, and appropriate clothing -- particularly for when we are 'walking' uphill!

Entry:
There is no fee and you don't need to be a member of Club Fat Ass to participate in a Flash event, however whining is not allowed.
