Lord of the Loop(s) - 1km Fun Run/Picnic

30 May 2009 11:30
30 May 2009 13:30
Location:
Capilano Salmon Hatchery Picnic Area, Capilano Canyon, North Vancouver, BC

My name is Max & I am 7 years old.

I love trail running. So does my dad. I love running on the trails with my dad, but his races are too long for me, so I can’t race with him. I couldn’t find a trail race for kids or friends of ultrarunners so I thought there should be one.
This race is for all of those people who want to try trail running, but can’t run really far or even very fast. Even if you are really good at running far, you can do this race & try to run really fast. Or you can run with someone you have always wanted to run with.
This is a fun race so you can run, walk, or crawl. Bring your friends, children, grandparents, wife, or husband & see who can do the fastest loop. Or who can do the most loops. Or maybe you can run together as a team. Whatever you do, you must have fun!
Bring food because it’s a picnic.

Max
Race Director

What: A family style event that features a picnic & a self-timed time-trial on the Coho Loop trail …a 1km loop in the Capilano Canyon trail system.

Where: Capilano Fish Hatchery Picnic area.
It is located on the south side of the turnaround at the Hatchery Pavillion.
It’s covered, so we will be there rain or shine.
Everyone is encouraged to bring some food & drink and enjoy the social atmosphere as we encourage everyone through their loop(s). Sorry….the Park forbids the consumption of alcohol.
There is limited parking nearby, so you "real" runners may have to drop the family off first, park the car up the road, & take a short warm-up run back to the picnic area....depends on the tourist volume that day.

When:
Saturday May 30, 2009
11:30am1:30pm
The race is styled as a self-timed time-trial.
You start your own watch at the start of the loop, & you stop it as you finish the loop. Run it once, twice, or several hundred times. It’s up to you.
It’s convenient enough that you could incorporate it in the middle of your training day as you wind your way between the Cap-Pacific trail & the Baden-Powell.

Who is registered?

Route:
The Coho Loop in the CapilanoCanyon, North Vancouver, BC.
-start at the picnic area near the cul-de-sac.
-turn right to cross the CableBridge.
-turn left at the end of the bridge & follow the Coho Loop trail along the WestCanyon rim.
-turn left over the pipe bridge.
-turn left at the Coho Loop trail along the EastCanyon rim.
-take the right fork after the Cable Lookout.
-finish at the picnic area.
***hint: keep the Capilano River on your left side.***

Awards:
Awards will be given for a variety of categories…some will be made up as we go…so you don’t need to be the fastest guy/gal to get a prize.

Entry:
There is no fee and you don't need to be a member of Club Fat Ass to participate in a Flash event, however whining is not allowed. Please indicate your participation via the registration form so that I can plan enough awards (if you are bringing someone with you who will run, fill out one form for each participant...  You are responsible for your own well being and safety and should be self sufficient. Please read the Release of All Claims. By participating in this event you agree to the terms of the Release of All Claims.

Aid Station:
Every 1km (duh!)...as long as you provide it.
Bring your own picnic food or superfuel. There are washrooms at the Hatchery facility.

Results:
There will be a result sheet at the picnic area that people will fill out as they complete each lap & results will be posted shortly after the event for all the world to see.

Remember: No whining!!!

My Dad is a Lard Ass. I am a Fat Ass. My kid is...?

A 1-km hike trip up the Grouse Grind took my Dad about 3 hours and almost killed him.  Your run may kill me, too, but I'll be there.  Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday, Max!

Race Director will you run this again next year?

Lord of the Loops looks beautiful!  I was planning to come with my granddaughters but it turns out I now work Saturdays.  So, I hope you will run the event again next year.  If you do, I'll get the time off and we'll be there.

We hope to.

It all depends on what makes a 7 year old tick a year from now...

Woo-hoo!

Great idea for an event. We will both be there.

My Dad might come too. He'll be the haggard guy at the top of the trail yelling "Pain is weakness leaving the body"

Thanks for organising!
