What: Join Business Member Kintec and Club Fat Ass for a slideshow of outdoor adventures and a Club social wrap-up of the year.
Mix and mingle with some old running friends and make some new ones. There will be a slideshow of images from past CFA events running in the background.
The focus of the evening will be a slideshow and tales from CFA members and their big adventure runs. These will include Dave Smith's Iceland Ultra, the incredible adventures of the Fools and the Baggers Challenge.
The evening is free and everyone is welcome.
Registration: Free for members and non-members of Club Fat Ass. Pre-registration is required, however, so we have enough pizza and drinks.
It was a full house last night for the Club Fat Ass Adventure Slideshow and Year End Social at Kintec Footlabs in North Vancouver. Members, members-to-be, spouses and friends, kids and dogs came out to share stories and photos of their outdoor adventures over the past year.
"Rain, No Train" Jackson kicked off the evening by recognizing the people and businesses that support the Club.
Jackson passed the talking stick to Dave and Jessica, who shared their impressions and photos from the 2009 Laugavegur Ultra Marathon in Iceland. Was it cheap? No. Was it worth it? According to Jessica and Dave, they'd go back in a heartbeat citing magnificent scenery, friendly people and a very well managed race.
Is it a cult? Calling oneself a "Fat Ass" is self-deprecating enough, but claiming you're a fool as well? We heard from 3 of the Fools about what it takes to be a Fool, what Fools do for fun, and how otherwise normal Fat Assess can be Fools, too. Many thanks to John, Kirsten and Karl for their hints and tips on running 100-milers. If you couldn't make the show, the Fools agreed that their secret to success was to go out slow and to not speed up until the finish. Join them for the next Foolish Gerbil 100-miler!
David Crerar then explained how the Bagger Challenge came about, what it involved and how it consumed the time and attention of himself and his friends this past fall. BaggerMeister Ken Legg spoke of how he overcame some tough competition to win the inaugural challenge then Glenn, Craig, Wendy, Jackson and others added their perspectives and tales of daring while stunning photos of sun-drenched peaks rolled in the background.
It was clear that everyone in the room had interesting stories to share, but some Club members are more shy than others. After hearing from our scheduled presenters, Pushpa Chandra and Eileen Bistrisky stepped up to share their stories, as well. Pushpa told of her big adventures running in Antarctica and the Everest Marathon. Eileen entertained with bushwhacking adventures to the Pitt River Hot Springs and daring climbs on Mount Whitney and other peaks in California before we wrapped up and headed over to the pub where the adventure stories kept on coming.
A big, fat "Thank You!" to Graham and Ryne at Kintec Footlabs, for providing the venue, the audio/visual equipment and the munchies.
