Cleveland Pacific Special

Last weekend saw the end of my first month on the Vancouver New Year's Day 50 training program. Things have gone well so far. I managed to get most of my runs in (3 midweek and 2 weekend runs) and only missed one run due to a viral infection. I also started to workout in the gym again - so far only once a week, but ideally I'd like to go twice weekly. The back to back weekend runs are tough, as I am finding I need more recovery time. This Sunday my Achilles was slightly sore and having dealt with Achilles Tendinitis in the past I do no longer ignore the warning signs. My Sunday run was turned into a bike ride.

I've been running mostly in the Capilano Canyon during the week. It takes me about 15min of road running to get to the trails and then another 20min to get back home from Cleveland Dam.

This week was the first weekend in a while with no scheduled or flash event on the calendar. Michele wanted to join me for a run, but wasn't ready for the 20km I had planned. We decided to post a Cleveland Dam to Pacific run as a Flash. I added about 1h by running to and fro Cleveland Dam to meet Michele. The night had brought torrential rains, but the morning dawned clear and crisp, with wispy clouds playing around the Lions. We headed down the beautiful Capilano Pacific trail, always following the west side of the canyon rim. This is one of my favorite runs. Where can you see giant ancient firs and cedars, a deep canyon and then emerge on the shores of the Pacific?

Total running time was as planned exactly 2:30h.
