Escape to Egmont - event report

Updated (attempted!) with GPX file. Thanks Greg!

With a brief break that allowed us some nice weather, we ran the first Escape to Egmont yesterday. With nine starters, we had fair representation of the communities of the sunshine coast. Powell River, Sechelt and Earls Cove runners made the trip to the Earls Cove ferry terminal for the 8:30am start.

After starting off with a fairly long uphill along the highway, we made our way along Egmont road (past the brand new firehall!) and onto the forest service road that took us up to Klein Lake. Another (miserable!) hill along the gravel road and we reached Debbie and Dave's 12k turnaround. Running through the campground was a nice change from the gravel road and a pleasant, quiet run to the 16k turnaround with a nice view over Klein Lake. Greg, Lisa and Teresa took the long route and ran the trail from Klein Lake to Ruby Lake (plus an extra km or two to improve the distance). This gave then the opportunity to run a couple more hills and see why it is that cyclists are instructed to dismount at the overlook (Whee!)

Since we finished just after the ferry sailed, it was time for an impromptu coffee-klatch back at the cabin for some and an opportunity to try some fries at the seldomly opened local diner for the others.

Would love your feedback on whether to repeat Escape to (from?) Egmont next year!

Also wanted to pick your brain on another flash event from Saltery Bay to Rainy Day Lake. What do you think?

Escape to Egmont

Hi Jackie,  Thanks for hosting the run.  The scenery was lovely and it was great meeting everyone.  I think it would be fine to do it again... the different lengths in course make it very flexible.  Debbie  :-)
