TCT Social Club 2013?

I would like to see the TCT Social Club run again this year. In unrelated news, I would have a healthy headstart in the 2013 edition.

Yesterday, I ran from Willingdon Ave in Burnaby to the other side of the Golden Ears Bridge in Langley (Section 4.2 to Section 8.2), or 60.1 km of complete sections. I started at 1:30 and finished about 6h later.

Event proposal: Elfin Lakes and Beyond

During this year's foggy Squamish Scrambler, we all regretted not seeing the mountains around us. To give us another chance, I would like to organize a sister event this summer (end of July, early August) in Garibaldi park: Elfin Lakes and Beyond.

Start from the parking lot at 8am, three distances: Red Heather (10k), Elfin Lakes (22k), and a long distance around 40k (to one of Little Diamond Head, Opal Cone, or Mamquam Lake). It would be a reasonnably tough run, up to +2000m elevation gain/loss, but it's a out-and-back, so turning around at any point will be easy.

Eric's 2012 resolutions

		Chuckanut

Vancouver 100 (strictly more than half the distance)

		Kneeknackers

		a 100k (Foolish run, maybe?)

Frosty 50k, faster than 2011 time of 7:50

		Participate to 10 CFA events

		Pick up garbage (!)

Bag all the peaks within reach of public transit, without a bike (list TBD, but it's a somewhat objective criteria). In other words, something like all the peaks below and including the line: Runner, The Needles, Crown, Harvey. (West Lion excluded.)

3 waterbags out of the 4 I can think of: Cypress range, Grouse range, Seymour range, a peak up from Lions Bay.

Run the TCT from Horsehoe Bay to Langley, with the Boundary Road -> Langley section in one go. Run more of the TCT than Ean.

Run to/from work at least once a week.

Barefoot running article in the NYT magazine

By Christopher McDougall, the author of Born to Run. It reads a bit like an update on the subject, 2 years after the book.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/06/magazine/running-christopher-mcdougall.html

But simply putting something different on your feet doesn’t make you a gliding Tarahumara. The “one best way” isn’t about footwear. It’s about form. Learn to run gently, and you can wear anything. Fail to do so, and no shoe — or lack of shoe — will make a difference.

This really is the whole point: Be gentle, soft (and quiet), no matter what you wear on your feet.

Fat asses running for Science

This week-end, several of us went to the Pacific Spirit Regional Park for a 75k ultra organized by the Cardiovascular Physiology and Rehabilitation Lab at UBC. I counted at least 5 CFA members at the start on Saturday. A second run was organized on Sunday with a separate group of runners.

Grouse near sweep

After missing Bill's run yesterday, because of a last minute leak in my (water) bladder, I decided to go today for an extended variation. With a new bladder. (The MSR model that look like it's made with a piece of a Zodiac boat.)

"Prepare your bag the day before, and you will see the future"
