New Event, Run to the Clouds... it is happening!

Hi folks,

Well, for any of you that have not heard yet the Coquitlam Club Fat Ass crew are putting on a new event here in the Tri Cities area in about 2 short months. April 22nd is the date to keep clear on your calendar. You will not want to miss this one...

For anyone living in Vancouver here and running with the mountains so nearby, you know how cool it is to get up into them. This new run will do just that (hence the name). As you drive east of Vancouver around the Port Mann bridge, if you look North you will see the majestic slopes of Eagle Ridge and Burke Mountain. The Run to the Clouds event will have you running right up high onto the south facing slopes of Eagle Ridge before heading back down to sea level (literally) for the return cruise home completing the event loop. Eagle Ridge is actually the next mountain east of Mt Seymor, just that the ocean past Deep Cove and beautiful Indian Arm inlet seperates the two.

I'm pre-warning you now, this event will not be an "easy" run. It has a total of roughly 2000 vertical feet (or 600 metres) of climbing over the 22 km course. However, that has never scared off you CFA runners though...

So, I would encourage you all to check out the posted route information. It just went up today. Go to:

http://www.clubfatass.com/events/RunToTheClouds/course

to read about it.

In fact, better yet, print off a set of route notes and over the next month or so plan to come out and pre-run some of the sections so you know what to expect on event day. If you are keen to do this, I would encourage pre-running (or pre-walking) the climb up to the power lines (from the route info around 2 km to 5 km waypoints) and the mid-later section from Strong Road back to sea level (from the route info around 13km to 17 km waypoints). These are going to be the tougher or more confusing sections of the whole route. The rest will be just fun mostly trail type cruising.

Also, I would like to thank my fellow Coquitlam CFA runners who took the detailed route plan and went out to pre-run this event route and double check all the notes a few weeks back. It was good that they did as we found a few small details that needed clarification before posting. It should all be good to go now.

So, April 22nd... I hope to see a bunch of you out there, should be a good one.

Pete Stace-Smith, official host of Run to the Clouds event.
